The notch around the “fight sight” is so minimalist as to become practically useless. For an experiment, I shot an entire twenty-round magazine at twenty five yards offhand using the rear fight sight, then I place up a clean goal and repeated the process, only this time utilizing the bolt handle with its huge deep notch as being the rear sight.
